Tom transferred to Columbus as a sophomore and immediately became a starter at defensive tackle …

Tom moved to nose guard his junior year and helped the Explorers become the first team in school history to win at least 6 games …. That year the Columbus defense – sparked by Tom and fellow hall of fame performer Mike Flynn — was ranked statistically as the third best defense in Dade County.

In his senior year, the Explorers punctuated another stellar  season with an upset win against Southwest.  For his play in that victory, Tom was named Dade County’s Defensive Player of the Week. He was Team Captain his senior year and was selected first team All-Dade and first team all-state.  …..

Tom Thweatt accepted a football scholarship to Memphis State University.  …. While there, Tom became a three-year starter at linebacker on a team that beat Florida State all 3 years ….. Tom’s college career ended during his junior season because of a  knee injury. He finished his college education at FSU where he received a degree in Visual Arts.

Today, Tom owns and operates a lawn maintenance company.  He and his wife of 30 years, Barbara, have two daughters.  Tom and Barbara live just two blocks from here.
