He scored double figures in 30 of his team’s 33 games …. And — like most great players — he saved his best performances for the biggest games.

Luis scored 31 points in the GMAC semifinal …. He followed that up with 29 points in the GMAC championship game against South Miami.

In the district semi-final, Luis collected 16 rebounds and the next night, in the championship game win over Coral Gables, he scored 22 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. In the regional semi-final against Southridge, he scored 23 points.

Luis was selected the team’s Most Valuable Player and was named to the Miami Herald’s All-County first team …. He was also tabbed third team all state.

At Barry, Luis was a two-year starter and was team captain his senior season . Also during that senior season, he was selected first-team All-Conference and second team NCAA Division 2 all-region.
