• First team all-county in 2003 when he led CCHS to its first state baseball championship.
  • Played at the University of Miami.
  • Drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals out of UM.

Jon Jay was the lead off hitter and played center field for the 2003 Explorers team that finished 26-7 and won the state Class 6A championship.  He was selected first-team all county and second team all-state.

From Columbus, Jon distinguished himself at the University of Miami where he started as a freshman.  In fact, his first-year batting average at UM was the third best in school history.  He was named a freshman all-American.  In his junior season, his last at Miami, Jon was voted the team’s most valuable player. He left Miami as 1 of only 9 players to hit over .400 with 200 or more at bats.

Jon was selected and signed by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 2006 draft after his junior season with Miami.  Jon has worked his way through the Cardinals minor league system and today is one of the organization’s top prospects.
