• First team All-City in track & field and cross country
  • Championships three consecutive years
  • GMAC champion in cross country

In the year 1963, Ed was a four-year letterman in track & field and cross country…. In his senior year, he was named first team All-City in both sports ….

In track, Ed won the GMAC championship in the mile. He was also a GMAC champion in cross country during his senior year. Ed and three of his Columbus teammates – Paul Stulgaitis (“sul-guide-iss”), Jack Black, and Chris Hosford — all crossed the finish line at the exact same moment …. Of course it was planned and it helped the Explorers win not only the individual championship but the team championship as well.

In all, Ed qualified for the state cross country and the state track and field championships three consecutive years.  …..He went onto to run one year at the University of Miami before setting his sights on a career in education.  He ended up working in the school system for 38½ years …. He was a principal in adult education for 24 years of those years.
