• Winningest Coach in Columbus History
  • 370 Varsity Wins
  • 112 JV Wins
  • Coached 40 College Players

A faculty member and coach for three decades, he served as the head varsity basketball coach for 20 years.  Over that time, he became the winningest coach in the school’s history. He won 370 games, combined with his wins in 7 years as the JV coach, his career record in just shy of 500 wins.

His 2005 team stunned Miami High to win the GMAC championship. That Miami High team went on to win the state championship. Coach Staiano’s 1999 team was the district champion, he coached five district runner ups.

There other big wins great moments. A win over a Northwestern team that was ranked third in the state, a 21-20 win over Edison in their gym in a district tournament game.

The two things he was most proud of was helping send 40  players on to play college basketball and the fact that 9 of his former Columbus players had come back to Columbus to coach with him. In fact, today, 3 of them are head coaches in Dade County.
